The Department of Health, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, the Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and local authority representatives have reached agreement on significant changes to Accounting for Social Services and to rationalise the collection of PSS data on expenditure and unit costs. The changes have implications for the PSS Performance Assessment Framework (PAF) indicators that involve expenditure. The changes take effect for the collections of data for 2000-2001 which are now getting underway. You will wish to ensure appropriate handling of the new arrangements within your council.
