Letter from the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson which, informs recipients that the guidance currently in force in England is that issued by the Department of Health in December 2001. This withdrew single-use instruments for tonsillectomy and reverted to the use of conventional reusable instruments (this followed difficulties which were being encountered with the single-use instruments then available in England) together with the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) interim guidance of March 2004.
