This letter from the Chief Medical Officer outlines the Government's response to the Health Select Committee's Report on the Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Hospitalised Patients, published earlier this year. Asks the General Medical Council, the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges and the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board to consider the recommendations in the report relating to implementation of, and adherence to, guidelines on counselling and risk assessment relating to thromboprophylaxis. They may also may wish to review the curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in the light of the recommendations.
