The Chief Medical Officer was asked, by the Secretary of State for Health, to investigate the handling of late abortion cases by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS). This letter introduces his report, which makes a number of best practice recommendations for dealing with late gestation abortion cases and improving early access to services.
