Further to the letter of 7 October 2005, this letter from Debbie Mellor (Head of Workforce Capacity) confirms in-year allocations of £12m for the Flexible Careers and Returners Schemes. This is the full central allocation to cover 2005/06 costs relating to the schemes.

The Flexible Careers and Returner Schemes have been very useful measures to encourage more part-time and flexible working arrangement for doctors and GPs and to provide support to those wanting to return to work.

The individual allocation of £12m (see Annex A for GP scheme and Annex B for hospital doctors scheme) to strategic health authorities (SHAs) is based on the number of hospital doctors and GPs currently on the Flexible Careers Scheme and Returner Scheme.
