HSG(97)32, dated 29 May 1997, set out the overall policy on the above in relation to externally funded non-commercial R&D starting on or after 1 April 1998. It also promised that detailed operational guidance would be issued. I am pleased to provide under cover of this letter detailed guidance to NHS Providers on what they need to do in order to operate these arrangements. Also enclosed for information are parallel documents for researchers, and for universities and charities as research funders.
