This letter announces the extension of the arrangements for the central oversight of provision of External Quality Assessment (EQA) Schemes set out in EL(96)34 to include EQA schemes in histopathology, cytopathology, cytogenetics and molecular genetics. This will be of interest to clinical pathology laboratories generally, and of particular interest to commissioners of pathology services and to units whose laboratories provide or which may in future provide EQA schemes.
