This circular follows on from HSC 1999/115 which explains the Secretary of State's decisions about the availability of impotence treatments from GPs on NHS prescription. Regulations were laid before Parliament and came into effect on 1 July 1999.
This circular:
- sets out the content of the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Amendment (No 2) Regulations 1999, SI 1999/1627, which came into effect on 1 July 1999
- provides advice to GPs on frequency of prescribing
- provides information and advice on implementing the new arrangements
- answers some commonly posed questions about HSC 1999/115
