These Health Service Guidelines set out the broad policy agreed between the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the Department of Health on the treatment of Service patients in the NHS hospitals and describes the administrative procedures required by the MOD for informing them when Service personnel are treated by NHS hospitals. Members of the Armed Forces (including NATO Forces stationed in the UK) are entitled to full use of NHS hospitals on the same basis as civilians if appropriate military provision is not available. Service dependants have exactly the same rights as civilians and the MOD has no obligation to offer treatment to civilian dependants.

Superceded by Health service guidance covering arrangements between the Ministry of Defence and the NHS issued 04/02/2005
