This circular updates the arrangements for local authorities to provide statutory notifications when the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) takes over the functions of the Social Services Inspectorate and National Care Standards Commission on 1 April 2004. It covers notifications to the secretary of state and the new commission about: serious case reviews under chapter 8 of Working Together to Safeguard Children; deaths of looked after children and children in regulated settings; serious incidents relating to adults in registered care homes; serious mental health incidents or investigations.
