LAC (2005)18: Charges for residential accommodation - CRAG amendment no. 24

In support National Assistance (Assessment of Resources) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2005 (SI 2005/3277)

This circular advises of changes to the Charging for Residential Accommodation Guide (CRAG) to take account of the coming into effect of the Civil Partnerships Act 2004.

This circular also:

  • Advises councils of the need to take account of one-off age related payments of £200 to households with someone aged 65 or over to help with council tax bills, and £50 to households with someone aged 70 or over to help with living expenses, and to disregard such payments from capital when assessing a person's ability to pay for residential costs.
  • Advises of the need to ensure that financial support for adopters provided pursuant to regulations made under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 continues to be disregarded from capital and income when assessing a person's ability to pay for residential payments.

Update

The Charging for residential accommodation guide was updated in April 2006 to take account of changes announced in LAC (2006)12.
