The White Paper, Adoption a new approach, published in December 2000, outlined the Government's commitment to make the adoption process fairer and more consistent. As part of this, the White Paper undertook to carry out a Fundamental Review of the adopter assessment process and of the operation of adoption panels. The Fundamental Review has been informed by a Stakeholder Group of representatives from across the adoption field. This letter announces a consultation exercise on the outcome of the Review which has been issued to ensure that all those with an interest in adoption have an opportunity to contribute to the development of regulations and supporting guidance on the adopter assessment process and the operation of adoption panels.
