This letter sets out the main aspects of the 2005-06 local government finance settlement which are relevant to the funding provided for children's social services. The figures for the Children's Social Services Formula Spending Share (CFSS), grant allocations, where available, and other details for each authority appear in the annexes.
A parallel letter, LASSL (2004)26, has been sent to councils by the Department of Health giving details of the older people and other adults allocations.
Although many of the Department of Health's Children and Families functions have transferred to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), these circulars will continue to be issued in the Local Authority Social Services Letter (LASSL) series for the foreseeable future.
