This letter sets out the main aspects of the local government finance settlement for 2006-07 and 2007-08 which are relevant to the funding provided for children's services. Figures for 2007-08 are provisional. A parallel letter LASSL(2005)6 is being sent to local authorities by the Department of Health giving details of the older people and other adult social care allocations. This letter should be cancelled on 31 March 2008.
Although many of the Department of Health's Children and Families functions have transferred to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), these circulars will continue to be issued in the Local Authority Social Services Letter (LASSL) series for the foreseeable future.
