Premises for general medical practice include a wide variety of building types ranging from adaptations of domestic premises for a single-handed practitioner to purpose built premises for large group of practitioners. It is, therefore, impossible to lay down hard and fast criteria which would be suitable for general application. The purpose of this commentary is to provide advice to health authorities, general practitioners, their architects and other professionals on the development of high quality premises.
