This circular draws attention to precautions to be taken to avoid the theoretical transmission of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, vCJD. In August 1999, The Department of Health issued advice to the National Health Service and to healthcare organisations about minimising the risk of transmission of vCJD in the healthcare setting.
