From autumn 1997 pharmacy undergraduate education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be extended from three to four years; pharmacy degrees in Scotland are already four years. As a consequence there will be a 'fallow' year in 2000, in which graduate output will fall near to zero (apart from in Scotland), followed by an ongoing reduced level of output.
