This professional letter notifies recipients of a change to the vaccines available to protect women of child-bearing age and health care workers from rubella infection. From the beginning of October 2003, sero-negative women of child-bearing age and health care workers who need to be protected against rubella will be offered the combined measles-mumps rubella (MMR) vaccine. This is because it has not been possible to secure supplies of licensed rubella vaccine.
