Following the recent announcement that the Junior Doctors Committee (JDC) of the BMA and Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) team had agreed to create four groups to provide constructive input to the MMC planning process, membership of the first two groups has now been finalised.
These small working groups will help develop a national structure and plans and ideas generated would be channelled into regular meetings between the JDC and MMC. A group is set up for each of the following: the Foundation Programme, Run-Through Selection, Service Grades and End Point of Training. A number of factions will be represented in these groups including medical students, junior doctors, deaneries, competent authorities and service.
Mr Simon Eccles, Chairman of the BMA's Junior Doctor's Committee said:
"This is a welcome opportunity for those most affected by Modernising Medical Careers to help develop the very best training for all our doctors.
"The JDC has always said that MMC has the potential to bring huge improvements to training and where we have concerns we want to work with the Department of Health to address them."
Professor Alan Crockard, National Director from the MMC, said:
'Modernising Medical Careers is a partnership for the whole medical community. We are pleased that all parts of this community are now working together to provide the modernised career structure that the 21st century requires.'
