These Secretary of State Directions come into force on 3 April 2007.
The Secretary of State established the National Specialised Services Commissioning Group (NSSCG) on 1st April 2007. The NSSCG:
(i) oversees and co-ordinates the commissioning of specialised healthcare services by Specialised Commissioning Groups (SCGs) particularly across SCG boundaries and supports supra SCG decision-making and
(ii) oversees the commissioning of national specialised services, advising the Secretary of State regarding services to be nationally commissioned and designation of national centres to provide such services.
These Directions set out PCTs’ responsibility to take proper account of the NSSCG’s advice when commissioning specialised services or participating in collective commissioning arrangements for specialised services.
