The draft Mental Health Bill was originally published for consultation on 25 June 2002, with the consultation closing on 16 September 2002.
The Department of Health received nearly 2,000 responses to the initial consultation resulting in the publishing of this revised version of the Bill on 8 September 2004.
The draft Mental Health Bill aims to strike a balance between safeguarding the rights of individual patients and protecting patients from harming themselves or others.
