These documents support the NHS operating framework for 2007-08.

The NHS contract for acute hospital services will cover agreements between PCTs and providers for the delivery of acute hospital based care.  The contract will apply to agreements for 2007-08 for:

  • NHS trusts
  • Foundation trusts
  • New agreements between PCTs and independent sector providers

There are two versions of the contract: a legally-binding one for NHSFTs and an abridged SLA version for NHS trusts.

Included with the contract templates are final versions of the contract guidance, four contract schedule templates, and the activity plan template. These documents have been revised following consultation, with the main amendments being to clarify in the guidance document:

  • How financial adjustments should be applied
  • The requirements of Prior Approval schemes
  •  The role and functions of co-ordinating PCTs

Schedule two has been altered to reflect these clarifications and a revised activity plan template is now available (together with a guidance note). No material changes have been made to any other documents.

Commissioners and providers should now use these finalised documents rather than previous versions. A 'Question & Answer' document is also available to support the use of these templates
