Department of Health Ministers have referred the following topics to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence for the production of clinical guidelines.
Prevention of Venous thromboembolism (VTE) in medical patients
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the prevention of VTE in all patients admitted to hospital.
Assessment and management of acute coronary syndromes
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the assessment and management of adults in primary and secondary care presenting with symptoms of suspected recent onset or deteriorating coronary heart disease for the purposes of inclusion or exclusion of a cardiac diagnosis.
Investigation, assessment and management of chest pain
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline for the NHS in England on the investigation, assessment and management of acute chest pain of suspected cardiac origin.
Social complications in pregnancy
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline in collaboration with the Social Care Institute for Excellence on the treatment of pregnant women who misuse drugs and/or alcohol, including the management of their new born babies.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Diagnosis and treatment of childhood constipation
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic childhood constipation, focussing on:
Recognition and treatment of neonatal jaundice
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the recognition and treatment decisions of babies who are jaundiced
Diagnosis and management of unknown primary tumours
Remit: To prepare a clinical guideline on the diagnosis and management of metastatic malignant disease of unknown primary origin.
