Department of Health Ministers have carefully considered all the representations received during consultation and have decided the following technology appraisals should be added to NICE’s work programme:

Single technology appraisals

  • Bevacizumab (Avastin) for breast cancer. 
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of bevacizumab in combination with paclitaxel for the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
  • Telbivudine (ldt) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of telbivudine for chronic hepatitis B
  • Entecavir (Baraclude) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of entecavir for chronic hepatitis B
  • Tolevamer (GT 267-004; Genzyme) for the treatment of clostridium difficile associated disease
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of tolevamer for Clostridium difficile associated disease.
  • Febuxostat (TMX 67, TEI 6720; Ipsen) for the management of hyperuricaemia in patients with gout
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of febuxostat for the management of hyperuricaemia in adults with gout.
  • Tocilizumab (Actemra) for the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of tocilizumab for juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
  • Adalimumab (Humira) for moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of adalimumab within its licensed indication for psoriasis.

Multiple technology appraisals

  • Bezacizumab (Avastin), Sorafenib tosylate (Nexavar) and Sunitinib (Sutent) for renal cell carcinoma – referred in June 2007
  • Following consultation on the remit, Ministers agreed the appraisal should be extended to include temsirolimus.  The revised remit was referred to NICE in September 2007:
  • Bezacizumab (Avastin), Sorafenib tosylate (Nexavar), Sunitinib (Sutent) and Temsirolimus (Torisel) for renal cell carcinoma
    To appraise the clinical and cost-effectiveness of bevacizumab, sorafenib, sunitinib and temsirolimus for renal cell carcinoma.
