NICE 18th Wave: technology appraisals referred in July 2008

Department of Health Ministers have carefully considered all the representations received during consultation on the remit and scope of potential topics and have decided the following technology appraisals should be added to NICE’s work programme:

Single Technology Appraisals (STA)

Azacitidine for high risk patients with high risk myelodysplastic syndrome, acute myelomonocytic leukaemia and acute myeloid leukaemia
To appraise the the clinical and cost effectiveness of azacitidine within its licensed indication for the treatment of patients with higher risk (IPSS INT-2 and High) myelodysplastic syndrome, acute myelomonocytic leukaemia and acute myeloid leukaemia (<30% blasts)’

Capecitabine for gastric cancers
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of capecitabine within its licensed indication for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer.

Methylnatrexone for opioid-induced bowel dysfunction
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of methylnaltrexone within its licensed indication for the treatment of opioid-induced constipation in patients with advanced illness who are receiving palliative care when response to usual laxative therapy has not been sufficient.

Oral alitretinoin for severe chronic hand eczema
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of oral alitretinoin within its licensed indication for the treatment of severe chronic hand eczema.

Permetrexed for non small cell lung cancer
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of pemetrexed within its licensed indication for the first line treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non small cell lung cancer

Rituximab for lymphocytic leukaemia (relapsed)
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of rituximab within its licensed indication for the relapsed treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

Rituximab for lymphocytic leukaemia (first line)
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of rituximab within its licensed indication for the first line treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

Sunitinib for gastrointestinal stromal tumours
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of sunitinib within its licensed indications for the treatment of unresectable and/or metastatic malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumours.

Tocilizumab for rheumatoid arthritis
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of tocilizumab within its licensed indication for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Topotecan for cervical cancer
To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of topotecan within its licensed indication for the treatment of recurrent and stage IVB carcinoma of the cervix.

 Trabectedin for soft tissue sarcoma
 To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of trabectedin within its licensed indication for the treatment of advanced metastatic soft tissue sarcoma.

  Ustekinumab for moderate to severe psoriasis
  To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of ustekinumab within its licensed indication for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis
