The Human Genetics Commission is the UK Government's advisory body on developments in human genetics and their ethical, legal, social and economic implications. It was established in May 1999 following the Cabinet Office review of biotechnology regulation. In August 2007 the HGC's sponsors commissioned an independent 'light touch' review in line with Cabinet Office guidelines.
