Details

As announced by Simon Burns (Minister of State for Health - Quality) in a Written Ministerial Statement on 16 December 2010, from April 2011 the government will be running a new series of pilots in 50 to 60 locations around the country.

Based on registration, capitation and quality, the new contract will have three main objectives:

  • improve the quality of patient care
  • increase access to NHS dental services
  • improve oral health, especially the oral health of children

It will be structured to reward dentists for the continuity and quality of care provided to patients, as opposed to the number of treatments undertaken.

The three different models being piloted in April will set out to gather as much evidence and information as possible on which to base this new contract.
