The guide is designed to provide information about rights and services for disabled people, older people, people with mental health problems and carers. The information in the guide mainly relates to services in England, although some contact details are given for Scotland, Wales and Northeren Ireland.

Introductory section includes contents list, foreword, a section on the Disability Discrimination Act and information on using the Guide.

Part 1 "Help near by" points to the support you can get in the community where you live from the local authority social services, the National Health Service and voluntary organisations.

Part 2 "Help with everyday needs"  is about support with different aspects of life, such as work and housing.

Part 3 "Help with particular needs"  tells you about services, equipment and sources of information related to particular disabilities, such as deafness or learning disabilities.

Part 4 "Helpful organisations" gives the addresses of organisations whose telephone numbers have been included in the appropriate parts of this guide.
