The National Service Framework (NFS) for older people defines standards for health and social services to ensure high quality care. This document describes how the use of medicines for and by older people can be improved. It was produced for this particular NSF because the majority of older people are taking prescribed medicines, in conjunction with other remedies they buy themselves. However, its principles are relevant and transferable to other patients with chronic conditions covered by other NSFs. Cites numerous references. [Book abstract]
