The National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People sets out a ten-year programme to improve services for older people. The wider older people programme, which includes intermediate and long term care, helping older people stay healthy and the development of Care Trusts and Care Direct, aims to extend the years of healthy life and to promote dignity, security and independence in old age. ISOP - the Information Strategy for Older People - is intended to provide the information infrastructure, systems and services required to deliver these programmes. It builds on Information for Health and Information for Social Care to ensure that the implementation of both programmes supports the Older People programme. In the first instance, its focus is health and the health and social care interface. Later iterations of the strategy will consider other areas of service delivery. Within this context, it considers: information for service users, carers and the public; information to facilitate the provision of care; and information for quality improvement, performance management, health improvement and planning.
