Corporate governance framework manual for primary care trusts: Version 6

Corporate governance is the system by which an organisation is directed and controlled, at its most senior levels, in order to achieve its objectives and meet the necessary standards of accountability and probity. Effective corporate governance, along with clinical governance, is essential for a Primary Care Trust (PCT) to achieve its clinical and quality and financial objectives. Fundamental to effective corporate governance is having the means to verify the effectiveness of this direction and control. This is achieved through what the NHS calls 'controls assurance'.

NHS Model Standing Orders, NHS Model Standing Financial Instructions and Model Schemes of Reservation and Delegation to NHS Boards were updated on 23rd March 2006 Gateway reference 6184.  There are separate versions available for Strategic Health Authorities, NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts and you should refer to these latest models.
