This has been produced as a resource for all those in primary care - whether based in general practice, the community or in PCTs - involved in implementing NSFs. National Service Frameworks help us to continue to improve patient care for the main clinical priority areas. Primary care is at the forefront of this drive, having a key, and in many cases leading, role in implementation. Five NSFs have so far been published - and several more are in the pipeline. This presents considerable challenges to primary care trusts and general practices - but also opens up opportunities, both within the primary health care team itself and in working with others to share the task.
This pack is designed to highlight those opportunities - particularly in areas where common processes, systems and ways of working can be applied to a number of NSFs. By looking across all of the NSFs, it aims to bring together key elements of the NSF agenda, outlines what support is available for implementation and illustrates approaches that others have found helpful.
This resource pack has been produced in leaflet form to enable users quickly and easily to access the topics that interest them most. Each leaflet is dedicated to a particular aspect relating to NSF delivery; where topics are inter-related, cross-references are given. The pack can be used - in part or in whole - as an inter-professional development tool, linked to in-house practice learning, for example, and to practice development plans. Ways in which PCTs can provide support and facilitate development in areas key to successful implementation of the NSFs are outlined under each topic.
Copies of this pack have been distributed to all general practices in England. PCTs and other interested parties can access the leaflets (in PDF format) on www.natpact.nhs.uk and www.doh.gov.uk. A limited number of additional hard copies are available from the NHS Response Line 08701 555 455 - please quote order number 28270.
We hope you find this to be a useful resource in responding to the challenges ahead.
