This guidance is for researchers planning R&D in the NHS for which they would seek external non-commercial funding (including University support). These notes inform you how to go about ensuring that such research receives the NHS financial support it needs. The NHS Executive's document HSG(97)32, published in May 1997, outlines the general policy, whereas this guidance sets out its detailed application; it is one of a series of three sets of detailed guidance, the others being for NHS Providers, and for Charities and University Research Funders.
