This guidance describes the arrangements for primary care trusts (PCTs) to manage lists of practitioners who provide, assist in the provision of or perform general ophthalmic services (GOS). It applies in England only. These arrangements will allow decisions about the overall acceptability of GOS to be taken locally by those responsible for the quality of primary care services.

Similar arrangements are being or have been made to the list arrangements for the other three NHS primary health care professions (doctors, pharmacists and dentists).
