This guidance sets out to provide an outline approach for internal auditors to follow when carrying out reviews of clinical governance frameworks and systems of internal control within clinical departments and in areas of clinical activity.
The aim of the reviews are to support the internal audit opinion on the degree to which clinical governance supports the achievement of an NHS organisation's objective of providing quality care to its patients and service users.
Although developed primarily for internal auditors, it could also be used by clinical governance managers, clinical governance committees and any other officers involved in monitoring clinical governance in NHS organisation.
