The new contractual framework for community pharmacy agreed for England and Wales between the Department, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) and the NHS Confederation, completes a long-held ambition to modernise and shape NHS community pharmacy services for the future. It went live from 1 April 2005.

Paragraph 3.11 on page 32 of the draft document has been amended and should now read
“3.11 The pharmacist undertaking the MUR will need to make a written record of the consultation on the form approved by the Secretary of State for Health for this purpose. A copy of the approved record form is at
The patient should be provided with a copy of the record, and if a recommendation is made to the GP either the overview page of the approved form or the whole form should be sent to the GP. If no recommendation is made the pharmacist should notify the patient’s GP within a month that the patient has received an MUR and provide a copy of the overview page or complete record form should the GP request this. The record may be kept, sent and stored electronically. The pharmacy should retain a copy of the record for such period as the Primary Care Trust may reasonably require. In the Directions, it states that it is up the Primary Care Trust to decide how long to keep MUR records. The Department recommends a minimum of two years should be sufficient."
