This information leaflet outlines the need for people with diabetes to receive effective patient education to enable them to manage their diabetes on a day-to-day basis. In 2001 the National Health Service published a National Service Framework for diabetes to improve the standard of care for everyone with diabetes. The National Service Framework says that people with diabetes should have information and education to help them self care.
