This document sets out the benefits of managed local networks and aims to promote and encourage their development.

At the Every Child Matters: Change for Children National Conference on 29 June 2005, Director of Care Services for the Department of Health, Antony Sheehan, announced A Guide to Promote a Shared Understanding of Managed Local Networks Services.

This tool promotes and encourages the development of managed local networks. Aimed at commissioners, planners, providers of health, social care, education, the voluntary sector and the criminal justice system, its purpose is to help people understand the advantages of working and planning services in managed networks.

The NSF for Children, Young People and Maternity Services strongly advocates the introduction of managed local networks, leaving their nature and extent to the discretion of decision-makers locally.
