(i) to summarise the work carried out by the Prescribing Allocations Group to date

(ii) to propose a practicable approach for the 1996-97 allocations to health authorities; this is a modified allocation on allocation method, taking into account forecast outturn and an assessment of relative prescribing need

(iii) to illustrate this approach on a range of assumptions about the aggregate amount available for allocation in 1996-97

(iv) to describe briefly our proposals from health authorities to individual practices (these will be set out more fully in the NHS Executive's allocations guidance)

(v) to set out our proposals for future work.
