NHS Options for Change identified the need to develop clinical care pathways for dentistry. The University of Dundee was commissioned to produce an Oral Health Assessment pathway. The final report on the Oral Health Assessment project is now published which reports on the process and outcomes of the project. The frequency of providing an oral health assessment will depend on individual health needs in line with NICE guidelines. We hope that in due course the algorithms developed by Professor Pitts and his team may be incorporated into dental electronic clinical systems which should make he Oral Health Assessment a valuable tool in diagnosis and treatment planning.
