The overall purpose of the survey was to assess the quality of NHS patient care as seen by hospital patients, both in-patients and day patients, who had been treated for coronary heart disease. 194 NHS trusts and over 84,000 patients in England took part in the survey. Field work took place during 1999. The survey was designed to feedback results to each participating Trust, as well as to provide a national overview of CHD patients' opinions of their treatment. This report represents the key findings from the survey for all CHD patients in England from a national point of view. It also includes some regional results and refers to variations between trusts. The first section presents the results as they relate to CHD patients from different demographic groups. The remainder of the report sets out the survey findings under separate 'themes' - or aspects of the patient's relationship with the hospital, doctors, nurses and other NHS staff. [Book abstract]
