In order to facilitate comparisons of questions between 1998 and 2002, there are 52 questions where responses have been categorised as either a problem or not a problem (or in some cases, excluded from the analysis). A score has been calculated to indicate the extent of problem answers, and these "problem scores" are included in the spreadsheets below.
The survey questionnaire shows how the response categories to each question are categorised as indicating a problem (blacked out box), not a problem (white box) or excluded from analysis (greyed out box).
The problem score for each question ofr each PCO was calculated by dividing the number of respondents in a PCO who gave black box answers by the number that gave either black or white box answers. This results in a percentage between 0 and 100, where a higher percentage indicates a greater level of problems.
For example: for question B2, the problem score for a PCO would be
(number of cases in the PCO with black box codes - 02, 05, 06, 07, 08)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(number of cases in the PCO with black or white box codes - 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08)
For each Strategic Health Authority there is a spreadsheet (approximately 360Kb) containing the problem scores for the PCTs within the StHA. Spreadsheets are in Excel97 fornat.
From 2007, a series of surveys was developed to collect information to reward GP practices according to performance on elements of access and choice.
