The 1998 General Practice survey was the first in the programme of national surveys looking at patient experience of GP treatment.
In 2006, the Department commissioned Picker to carry out this survey using exactly the same survey instrument as the PCT surveys carried out by the Healthcare Commission within the National Patient Survey Programme. The report on the survey, and a technical appendix presenting tables of results, are shown below.
In the great majority of aspects of primary care, the situation, as reported by patients, is largely unchanged from that reported in 1998.
The summary of key findings and the national report are available in Portable Document Format. The tables of results by health authority are available as Excel spreadsheets.
From 2007, a series of surveys was developed to collect information to reward GP practices according to performance on elements of access and choice.
