Social Services Performance Assessment Framework Indicators 2000-2001 and mid 2001-02

  • Last modified date:
    29 October 2008

This is the third set of data for England published by the Department of Health for the performance indicators associated with the PSS PAF.

The data were supplied to the Department by each of the 150 councils with social services responsibilities. Data for the year ending 31 March 2001 are available for 47 of the 50 indicators, eleven of which are reported on for the first time. Data for two indicators (A4 employment, education and training for care leavers and D43 waiting time for care packages) are not available until 2001-02 and for the remaining indicator (E45 ethnicity of children in need) the latest available data, prior to 2001-02, relate to 1999-2000.

A number of the indicator values for 2000-2001 included in the publication have since been revised and details are given in each of the sections below.

Data for mid 2001-02 are available for 7 indicators:

  • C20 Reviews of child protection cases (denominator refers to 6 months to 30 September 2001)
  • C23  Adoptions of children looked after in the year ending 30 September 2001
  • C26 Admissions of supported residents aged 65 or over to residential / nursing care in the 6 months to 30 September 2001
  • C27 Admissions of supported residents aged 18-64 to residential / nursing care in the 6 months to 30 September 2001
  • C32 Older people helped to live at home at 30 September 2001
  • D38  Percentage of items of equipment costing less than £1,000 delivered within 3 weeks in the 6 months to 30 September 2001
  • D39 Percentage of people receiving a statement of their needs and how they will be met in the 6 months to 30 September 2001

A copy of the spreadsheet showing the data and bands is available below. The bands applied to C20, C32, D38 and D39 are those used for the 2000-2001 indicators. Bandings have not been applied to indicators C23, C26 and C27 as the definition of these indicators differs from those published in 2000-2001.

Spreadsheets containing the indicator data for individual councils

2000-2001 data revised 1 December 2005 (revisions reflect revisions to mid year population estimates and only affect indicators AO/A5, C26-33 and E49)

2000-2001 data published 19 October 2001

These spreadsheets (in Excel 97 format) were updated on 22 November 2001 to include data for indicator C33 that was not available when the 2000-2001 PAF indicator data was published on 19 October

A correction has been made to the value of indicator D41 for Worcestershire and therefore it is no longer consistent with the publication.

The first and third of the spreadsheets include adjusted cost indicators. These allow for respite and short term placements for children looked after (indicators B8 to B10) and full cost paying residents in councils' own homes (indicators B12 to B16). The adjusted versions of B8 and B9 also allow for days spent in residential schools. The adjusted version of E44 includes a share of commissioning and social work costs in the numerator which makes it more comparable with data for earlier years.
