Policy responsibility, together with associated statistics for the social care of children, has passed to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).

Children accommodated in secure units, England and Wales

The bulletin presents statistics of children and young people under 18 years of age accommodated in secure units maintained by local authority social services departments in England and Wales. Because there is only one secure unit in Wales it is customary to include it in this publication. Secure accommodation is provided for young people who are thought to be at risk of causing injury to themselves or others, or who have been detained or remanded into local authority accommodation.

Children adopted from care, England

Number of adopted children who were looked after by local authorities, by age and time spent in care.

Children in need in England

A survey of activity and expenditure as reported by local authority social services' children and families teams.

Children and young people on child protection registers, England

Statistical report on the operation of child protection registers.Contains data on the children by age, sex, legal status and the type of risk from which they need to be protected. It covers the number on the register for the reported year and on registrations and deregistrations during the preceding year. Includes time series data and the outcome of child protection conferences are given.

Children's homes

This publication contains statistics on children's homes in England at 31 March. The statistics cover type of homes, size of homes, age accommodated in the homes. age criteria for admission, facilities in the homes, analysis by local authority of the location of homes, and small unregistered homes used by local authorities.

Supervision orders

Statistics on children subject to criminal supervision orders made under the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 in England.
