This bulletin presents for the first time statistics on the experiences of physically disabled and sensory impaired users aged 18-64 of personal social services in England.

Main findings

In answer to the question
Do you feel that your opinions and preferences are taken into account when decisions are taken about what services are provided to you?

  • 29% of all respondents in England said their opinions and preferences were "always" taken into account.
  • 29% of white clients said their opinions and preferences were "always" taken into account compared with 26% of black and ethnic minority respondents.

In response to the statement
"I can always contact social services if I need to"

  • 79% of all respondents in England said they "strongly agree" or "agree" with the statement.
  • 80% of white clients said they "strongly agree" or "agree" compared with 74% of black and ethnic minority respondents.

In answer to the question
Overall how satisfied are you with the help you receive from social services?

  • 46% of all respondents in England said they were "extremely satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the help they receive from social services.
  • 47% of white clients said they were "extremely satisfied" or "very satisfied" compared with 38% of black and ethnic minority respondents.
