Historic data

In addition to the summary data listed below, separate sources give more detailed figures on general medical practitioners in England and the GMP census additional data collection (1999-2002). These groups relate to the main statistics, which are collected via annual workforce censuses. Information is also presented on general practitioner recruitment, retention and vacancies and general ophthalmic services workforce statistics. Figures on dentists are included in the summary data (HPSSS) but are not published separately.

General and Personal Medical Services statistics

This contains a summary of data relating to General Medical Practitioners providing General Medical Services (GMS) and Personal Medical Services (PMS) in England and Wales, their patients, partnerships and services. It also includes a summary of data relating to GP Practices below a minimum standard and removals and transfers of patients on GP's lists. The data collected within the GMS and PMS census mainly originate from the GPs' quarterly payments and registrations system.
