Reducing the numbers of people who smoke

There has been good progress on all fronts; in particular, progress towards legislation on smokefree public places and workplaces and the introduction of the ban on tobacco sponsorship, and record numbers of people giving up smoking across the country. Smoking rates in England stood at their lowest recorded level - 25% - with 1.2 million fewer smokers since 1998.
