Each year across the UK, three million women experience violence; and there are many more living with the legacies of past abuse. It can take many forms including:
• domestic violence
• rape and sexual violence
• sexual harassment
• female genital mutilation
• forced marriage
• crimes in the name of honour
• trafficking
• sexual exploitation
The Government is determined to prevent violence against women and girls happening or recurring, to protect and support its victims; and to bring offenders to justice
Communications guidance and a toolkit has been produced in order to support and inform communication in the area of violence against women and girls. Reducing violence against women and girls requires a long-term shift in public attitudes. Effective, consistent and strategic communications from the NHS, local authorities and third sector organisations will play a key role in achieving this.
