An advisory group to the NHS Central Research and Development Committee (CRDC) identified 20 priorities for Research and Development (R&D) in the area of the evaluation of methods to promote the implementation of research findings.

Applications were invited for:

  • Rigorous evaluations of the effectiveness of interventions to improve the uptake of research findings in practice.

and suggested interventions were:

  • interventions targeting professionals (educational approaches, local opinion leaders, audit and feedback, reminders and decision support, marketing approaches and multifaceted interventions);
  • interventions targeting patients;
  • organisational interventions (eg. contracting processes).
